Morey St-Denis Wines

Lying just south of Gevrey-Chambertin, these wines may be less well known, but are far more consistent. There seems to be far more consistency in terms of quality of production and focus here. Maybe this is because the appellation is less well-known and therefore cannot rest on its name or its laurels? The producers in this region focus on high quality and consistent production.

About Morey St Denis Wines

It is home to 5 Grand Crus, and 20 Premier Crus, which are nestled on the mid slopes of the area, with a high limestone content in the soil. 95% of the appellation is red, from Pinot Noir, with a minority 5% of Chardonnay, producing a small amount of white.

In terms of style, Morey Saint-Denis wines have a richness, and sumptuousness of fruit, lying not only geographically, but stylistically, between the powerful masculinity and structure of Gevrey-Chambertin, and the subtle, perfumed elegance and delicacy of Chambolle-Musigny.

Environmental impacts are fast becoming a key concern for consumer and producer alike as the effects of climate change have increased over the past few decades, if you couldn’t tell (how…
