Corton Wines

Corton is the only red Grand Cru of the Cote de Beaune. It comes from vineyards on the hill of the Montagne de Corton to the north and west of Beaune, and some vineyards from neighbouring Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses creep into this.

About Corton Wines

Aloxe-Corton produces predominantly red wines, which are full, structured and often need time to soften and develop. Corton itself is the largest grand cru area in Burgundy, and comes from vineyards on the southern slopes of the hill; it produces superbly intense and structured wines, which, once again, command a high price internationally. Aloxe-Corton definitely benefits from the association!

The most famous appellation in this commune is Corton Charlemagne, one of the world’s top Chardonnays, produced from vines grown solely on the hills of the Montagne de Corton, which spans both Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses. History tells us that the Charlemagne name comes from the fact that it was the emperor Charlemagne who first brought the Chardonnay grape to the Montagne de Corton. It is one of the largest white Grand cru vineyards, covering just under 180 acres of land; the wines are deep, fragrant, rich and intense, with a honeyed, ripe stone fruit character, longevity, and an enchantingly fresh, flinty, minerality. They are also some of the longest lasting whites of the Cote de Beaune.

Wine52 Goes Sud-Ouest
The Sud-Ouest (South-West) wine region in France covers several appellations with a climate relatively similar to that of Bordeaux. Much like in Bordeaux, the Atlantic Ocean has quite an influence on weather conditions, helping moderate the hot summers. Besides some better known regions you may have heard of such as Cahors and Bergerac, there are also 14 IGPs to look out for. The best known is probably Cotes de Gascogne where the white variety Colombard often features or indeed takes up a…

Sustainability focus: Bordeaux
This blog might well be for the real enthusiasts as it is based off my research essay I submitted for my Diploma qualification recently. So, all I have to say is, good luck! But, in all truth, this topic is very prevalent in the wine world and gives a real insight into changing vineyard and winemaking practices. Environmental impacts are fast becoming a key concern for consumer and producer alike as the effects of climate change have increased over the past few decades, if you couldn’t tell (how…
