Barsac Wines

Barsac is a commune of the Sauternes region, located in the southern part of the Graves and famous for sweet wines made usually from botrytis (noble rot) affected grapes. Here, the Ciron River meets the Garonne River which produces mists ideal for the development of botrytis. Sémillon is the main component with some Sauvignon Blanc and tiny amounts of Muscadelle. Wines from Barsac may actually be labelled as either Barsac or Sauternes. The wines are often filled with strong citrus, honey and tropical fruit aromas with some vanilla notes and of course sweetness. Barsac wines tend to be a little lighter and delicate with higher acidity than their Sauternes counterparts.
