Mercurey Wines

By far the largest of the Cote Chalonnaise appellations, it produces more than Rully and Givry put together. It is essentially a red wine area, although the 10% of white that it does produce, if made by one of the top producers, such as Rodet, Boillot, Faiveley, producing ripe, interesting wines, with a rich minerality.

The reds offer some of the most interesting and relatively best value wines in Burgundy – there are hints of Cote de Nuits style Pinot Noir here, albeit without the intensity, and depth – but lovely, fleshy, approachable wines, with juicy ripeness.

Environmental impacts are fast becoming a key concern for consumer and producer alike as the effects of climate change have increased over the past few decades, if you couldn’t tell (how…

The best of the Rhone? - Guigal
Guigal was established shortly after the Second World War by Étienne Guigal who started with another famous Rhone name, Vidal Fleury. As testament to his success, Guigal now in fact owns Vidal Fleury too. The Guigal name really came to the fore when wine critic, Robert Parker led the charge in heaping praise upon their Côte-Rôtie wines. Guigal have since purchased Château d'Ampuis in the 90s, which is now their headquarters and fittingly, the home where Étienne Guigal’s wife used to work as a…
