About Pauillac Wines

Pauillac is a name that commands respect across the wine world, and is arguably, the most acclaimed, and prestigious area within Bordeaux, home to no less than 3 of the 5 first growth (premier cru classe wines) – the world famous names of Chateau Lafite, Chateau Latour and Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, as designated in the famous 1855 classification of Bordeaux, with Mouton-Rothschild being added in 1973.

Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme here, at home on the gravelly soils, and dominates the Bordeaux blend – it is here that the rich, cedar and intense blackcurrant characteristics of this grape variety are seen at their best; whilst each chateau will provide a unique and bespoke style, there is a common style, in terms of richness, intensity, and complexity, balanced by restraint and elegance.

As well as the acclaimed First Growths, Pauillac is home to a number of famous classed growths, including Chateau Pichon Longueville, Chateau Lynch Bages, and Chateau Pontet Canet.
