About Taittinger
Taittinger is one of the leading brands of Champagne, renowned for its elegance and style, it’s seen not only in restaurants and on supermarket shelves, but being poured for A listers at events such as the BAFTAS. Its house blend is a more delicate style than many, due to the high proportion of the Chardonnay grape in the blend.
Background to Taittinger
Taittinger is one of the older Champagne houses, one of many founded in the 18th century. It was bought in 1931 by Pierre Taittinger, a first world war veteran, who had been based at its Chateau de la Marqueterie estate.
Today it’s one of the few Champagne companies still to be known under the name of the owner, and still run entirely by descendants of the founder, in this case Pierre’s grandson. Taittinger has its headquarters in the famous city of Reims, sitting above deep, cool chalk cellars, where its wines are stored. Taittinger is one of the largest vineyard owners in the region, and unusually bases almost all of its blend on Chardonnay, with accounts for almost 30% of its production.
STYLES OF WINE
Taittinger produces a high quality range of Champagne, with restrained elegance their hallmark.
Its Taittinger Brut Reserve NV is based on a blend of 40% Chardonnay, which explains its delicate, creamy style, and the Taittinger Prestige Rose is similarly elegant. There is a softer, off dry, richer style of Champagne also, called Taittinger Nocturne Sec.
The brand also produces a super premium Taittinger Prelude Grands Crus, a thoroughbred of a Champagne, produced from only the very best Grand Crus vineyards.
The flagship of the Taittinger range is the exclusive, much-acclaimed Taittinger Comtes Blanc de Blancs, a vintage champagne made only in the very best years, and made entirely from Chardonnay. Taittinger also produce a single estate Taittinger Les Folies de la Marquetterie, made exclusively from grapes grown in the vineyards of this family-owned chateau.
Food and wine matching
Generally Champagne tends to be served at celebrations, but it can actually also be a superb wine with food, however most people don’t know what to serve it with. The drier, lighter styles are great with seafood, and smoked salmon blinis.
The richer, fuller styles are superb with rich fish dishes, such as scallops, salmon and langoustines, whilst one of the most decadent matches, which really does work is to pair Champagne with top quality fish and chips!
As you can see, a gorgeous fizz that is as versatile as Taittinger is simply a must buy! Shop the whole Taittinger Range and get the best deal by comparing Taittinger prices on our website. Cheers!
