Where to get your Wine Bin Ends

Whether it’s the January haul or a late-Summer clear out, Wine Bin End sales are a staple of the industry these days and thank goodness they are. Contrary to what some say, this isn’t just a cheap way of offloading plonk (although that’s not to say that doesn’t happen), rather it’s a way of clearing out the older vintages like last Summer’s Rose or simply saying a sad goodbye to delicious wines that may not have had the label or customer interest to shift enough to keep in the range.

On top of that, you have to consider the wineries needing room in their tanks or traditional oak barrels (bins). If they need the space for the next vintage then they will clear it fast. The reason you often get two sales per year, is due to harvest times which results in an Autumn sale for the Old World, and Spring for the New World.

I often find these sales a great way to try something new, or get hold of a grape you’ve never of from a country you haven’t yet tried. Equally, they also provide excellent opportunities to buy in bulk and stock up to fill your wine rack or buy ahead for a party later in the year. Laithwaites tend to have two clearance sales per year, one in January and an End Of Financial Year sale occurring in June/July. Majestic Wine Bin-Ends

Similarly to Laithwaites, the Majestic Wine Bin End Clearance comes round twice a year in January and late Summer. They bill it as a rare opportunity to enjoy quality wines without the premium prices. I’d agree as I have probably bought a number of wines in each of their sales: the best part about them is it often includes wines from their eponymous Wine Club at a massively discounted rate. It really opens up the World of wine with some incredible new grapes on offer. The most unusual I have tried was probably a Semillon that tasted a little like Tabasco sauce. Not for everyone, but it gives you an idea what the budding explorer might find.

Vinatis Bin Ends

This is a sale that Vinatis tend to keep going all year round, but January is the main focus with new wines coming on offer. For those who don’t know, Vinatis is an extremely good French wine merchant who have a little bit of everything from all over France.
