Vermentino - France, Sardinia, Tuscany

Vermentino is a multi-talented grape, being used in many styles of wine. Typically the whites of Italy showcase intense lemon and floral aromas with the hotter regions able to produce tropical flavours.

France

In France it is better known as Rolle and is used as a supporting grape in the pale pink Roses of Provence. It adds acidity and helps give the French Roses their cool, crisp edge. It is also made into white wine in Provence and Southern France, although Rose dominates.

Sardinia

It is the most grown white variety on the island and there are two particularly important regions in Sardinia for Vermentino. Vermentino di Sardegna DOC and Vermentino di Gallura DOCG. These are generally considered to be the best places to get the variety from.

Tuscany

White is not the biggest focus of Tuscan winemaking, but it is worth noting that Vermentino can make some good wines here. For example, in DOC Bolgheri and Maremma Toscana DOC it can make some excellent wines.
