Lisboa Wine Region

This is a long region, stretching 150km up the coast from Lisbon to the North. Coastal conditions are suited to lighter-bodied styles of wine, whilst those slightly further inland are capable of riper, fuller wines. A large range of grape varieties are grown here inlcuding classic international ones like Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, but there are a great many local varieties in fashion too.

Alenquer and Bucelas are the best known DOCs, with Alenquer focussed on full-bodied reds made from Touriga Nacional and Aragonez, and Bucelas making fresh, zesty wine from Arinto. Colares is another tiny coastal DOC attracting attention for super fresh red and white wines from indigenous local grapes. The main production is from Lisboa VR which has brought many popular wines such as Porta 6 and LB7 Red.
