San Antonio & Leyda Valley Wine

Just south of Casablanca, in the heart of the San Antonio valley, lies one of the most premium white wine regions of Chile. Situated west of Santiago, and with vineyards running as close as 4km from the Pacific coast, it has a similar, but almost more extreme climate than Casablanca, similar to some of the Napa ones, with fog and cooling winds blowing in, to temper the naturally hot climate, and permit a long, cool ripening period for the grapes.

The area produces some of the most ‘European’ styles of wine, with restraint and minerality, to balance the beautifully ripe fruit. Top grape varieties are those which favour cooler climates, and which, in their expression, typify just how high the quality of these regional wines can be – Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Viognier, Chardonnay, and in terms of red, it’s the Pinot Noir that this area suits.
