Cachapoal Wine

Lying to the south of Maipo, this is another well-established red wine region, producing a high quantity of good value, reliable, and sometimes exceptional wines, from the Cabernet Sauvignon but also from the Carmenere, as well as Merlot and Syrah. It is probably the best known wine region for the unique Carmenere grape.

About Cachapoal

It encompasses the well-known sub region of Rapel, which produces a high proportion of the region’s wines, stretching, as many other regions from the coast to the mountains, with the Rapel river running through the area, providing the much needed irrigation.

A dry region with a variety of soil types, from sand and gravel to loam, sub regions within Cachapoal have developed, as in other areas, with increased plantings in the foothills of the mountains, and the premium sub region of Peumo, close to the coastal mountains, produces some of the country’s best Carmenere.
