Decanter World Wine Award Judging 2014

Wines are organised for tasting by country, region, colour, grape, style, vintage, and price, to ensure that wines are judged in flights against their peers. All the wines are tasted blind.

Wines awarded a Gold or Silver medal are re-tasted by the Regional Chair for his or her confirmation, and all Gold, Regional Trophy and International Trophy winning wines are tasted up to four times.

All the Gold medal-winning wines within each region are divided into categories according to price (under or over £15) and style or grape variety to be tasted for the Regional Trophies.

All Regional Trophy winners are then split into categories according to grape variety or style. These wines compete for the under £15 and over £15 International Trophies in a separate tasting.

The DWWA 2014 was judged by 224 specialist tasters from around the world, including 66 Masters of Wine and 18 Master Sommeliers. This year, it was 240 judges, including 85 Masters of Wine, and 23 Master Sommeliers.
