Named after the ancient Monkey King who had an insatiable hunger for roasted coconuts (Noix de Coco Rôties), this is an impressive red from the small RedHeads wine studio. This boutique winery has no vineyards of its own, but the winemaker, Dan Graham, has an impressive list of contacts to draw upon to ensure every year he receives just the fruit he's after. For Coco Rôtie, it was Jeff McMurtrie's 30 year old Shiraz vineyard, lifted by a splash of Viognier. And with 20 years' experience, Jeff is a dab hand at extracting the very best from his patch of vines. Traditional methods of open top fermenters, hand plunging and oak fermentation have resulted in dense fruit and velvety tannins. Beef stew or garlicky lamb would make a great partner..
