Think of an Argentinian wine and you're most likely to think of Malbec, loved for its intense, inky black fruit flavours cloaked in mocha spice.
Tasting Notes by Master of Wine Chris Burr: Rudolpho Sadler's Opi Malbec
Rudolpho's nick name is Opi, hence the label of his fruity, spicy and richly savoury wines. His Malbec vineyards are in one of the best parts of the Country near the town of Maipu in the province of Mendoza, and the foothills of the Andes. His 2020 Malbec and is a real crowd pleaser, juicy dark fruit, and very quaffable. At just £8.99 per bottle when you buy 12, it is great value.
He's also produced a Malbec Reserve 2019, from the cooler Uco valley, which Laithwaites sell for £13.49 for a mixed 12, or £14.99 a bottle. This is an exceptional Malbec with all the fruity intensity of the regular Malbec above, but with so much more class. This wine has a lovely balance of fruit and fresh acidity, all the sharp edges are smooth and the wine is voluptuous without being heavy. In my view well worth the extra fiver.
