Montes Alpha is a label of Montes Winery, one of the finest cellars to grace the lands of Chile. The winery was founded in 1987 by wine entrepreneurs Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, who set up their home base in the province of O’Higgins, a stone's throw away from the great viticultural region of Colchagua Valley.
Montes draw from a range of incredible vineyards, each suited to its own delicious purpose. The Special Cuvee Chardonnay is sourced from Zapallar, an appellation well adjusted for the Burgundy grape and situated in the northernmost part of the breezy Aconcagua Coast.
Although its fruits were grown in a relatively cool climate, the Special Cuvee Chardonnay exhibits a distinctly tropical nose. Notes of papaya, grapefruit and banana explode from the neck of the bottle, along with familiar hints of citrus. 40% of the wine was aged for a year in French oak barrels, adding complex and creamy notes of vanilla, toast and caramel to the palate. You will also discover a juicy acidity and bountiful tropical fruits, all leading to a wonderfully fruity finish. This Chardonnay is an excellent choice for pairing with seafood but will go equally well alongside a creamy pasta dish or white meat.
