Keen to experience a characterful, ripe white a little different from the norm? Try Le Chai's La Révélation. Its prized grapes come from Domaine de Coussergues, an ancient estate in the Languedoc. It is a magnificent property with 600 hectares of forest, olive groves and vineyards, owned by the Sarret family since 1495. A few years back, Le Chai's Mark Hoddy uncovered there some ancient vines of Roussanne and Marsanne. They're so old and gnarled they only produce miniscule amounts of grapes - all the better for concentration. Vinified in barrel, this rounded white has a lovely spiciness perfectly integrated with the ripe fruit and citrus freshness of this wine. Tasty solo, La Révélation is a treat with white meats, and creamy fish, too.
