Metis is a wine made by Matt Day, Klein Constantia’s hugely talented young winemaker, and it is directly inspired by Pascal Jolivet, Loire-based Sauvignon Blanc icon. Matt spent the 2012 harvest working closely with Pascal and his winemaker Jean-Luc Soty. Cue a meeting of minds, swopping of secrets and a plan to make a sort of fusion-style wine from Matt’s top grapes. – the tension, aromatics and texture are nothing short of remarkable. This is clearly the future for Sauvignon from this historic estate. It ought to be a siren call to all Cape winemakers (Matthew Jukes)
