Maria Angeles Camara makes our popular Palacio del Conde wines but here you have her deliciously dark, opulent Syrah from the sunny slopes of Valencia. Although not native to Spain, Syrah loves Spain's warm climate and is increasingly used to raise the quality of its red. The de Lluna vineyards, set at 600 metres above sea level, lie 30 miles from Valencia where the good people of Madrid and elsewhere flock in the summer for relaxation. John Radford in The New Spain writes: "Spanish wine is more vibrant, happening and fascinating than it has ever been" - an opinion beautifully illustrated by this almost New World style Syrah. Smooth enough to enjoy alone, it's also a match for grilled or roast red meats, barbecues and winter casseroles.
