Produced exclusively for Fortnums by Jim Barry on his sustainable vineyard, the unique, moderately continental climate brings long, warm summer days followed by cool nights – helping to extend the hang time as well as retaining the grapes crisp acidity and structure, which is the hallmark of wines from the region.Sourced from the vineyards cooler site at Lodge Hill, some 500m above sea level, the wine is aged in mature French oak barrels for 10 months before resting in the cellars. Inky in colour, packed full of plum, blueberry and raspberry fruit, it is medium-full bodied, with dark blackberry and plum fruit with a savoury note. The bright acidity adds a balanced freshness to the wine making it immensely drinkable. Approachably soft, but still full of spice, cracked-pepper and liquorice aromas, it pairs perfectly with mushroom dishes, pasta, red meats, burgers, ribs and aged cheeses.
