750ml - Fine Red Wine from Lebanon
Established in 1930, today Château Musar is run by the third generation of the Hochar family with vineyards at 1000 meters above sea level in Lebanons Bekaa Valley. A blend of equal proportions Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan, hand harvested from organic vineyards. Fermented with natural yeasts, given minimal sulphur additions, the wines are aged for 12 months in French oak barrels before blending. Bottled without fining or filtration in the third year. As such, natural sediments will occur, and we suggest decanting. It shows a balance of rich, ripe fruit as well as the complex aromas and flavours that come from bottle age. The ideal partner to grilled meats or vegetables, but especially good with seasonal flavours of game and wild mushroom. It is equally suited to mature cheese – comte, parmesan or a good cheddar. 13.5% ABV

I will always remember my first glass of Chateau Musar, many years ago. Deep red, full bodied, silky and a beautiful medley of claret flavours.

A delicious, smoky, yet sweet Bordeaux-esque wine, superior in many ways to similarly priced clarets.

Gaston Hochar and his family of grape-genies have succeeded in crafting a wine with a cult following from a dusty war-torn Bekaa valley every year but 2 (when civil war raged and shelling prevented harvest). The 2008 vintage is no exception and is shaping up to be another stunning example of viticulture expertise which just gets better the longer it is left if you can resist the temptation and lay if down for a few years!

A lovely, complex, red from Lebanon - lots of fruit, but acidity as well - okay now, but best kept for 5 years or longer - should develop nicely.
