Prosecco still dominates the Sparkling Market, but could this be set to change

In a survey of over 2300 recipients, when asked which type of sparkling they’d be most likely to drink, 83% of people chose Prosecco.

This comes as no real surprise. We know that over the past 10 years Prosecco has grown hugely in popularity. Due in the most part to its light and refreshing taste and low price compared to Champagne.

But what else are consumers looking for when they want a bottle of fizz?

Our research shows, that only 19% of people save sparkling wine for special occasions.. That means 81% of us are happy to indulge in a glass of bubbly whenever we feel like it.

This regular indulgence means we can’t always afford to splash out on Champagne on a Friday night, in fact 42% of people stated their usual budget was between £8-£12.

Conveniently, Prosecco falls right within this budget. However, so do many other regional sparkling wines such as Cava and Cremant.

Interestingly, 82% of people said they would consider an alternative sparkling wine to Prosecco, if the price was similar. Does this mean we are going to see a shift towards other sparkling then?

This is something which remains to be seen, and the climb in popularity of Prosecco hasn’t really slowed in the past 10 years.

English sparkling seems to be coming up as a new rival however, with sales rising as much as 15% from 2017-2018.
