What is Blonde Ale?

Blonde Ales [aka Golden Ales] originated in North America, as a product of the craft-brewery movement. It was mostly intended to attract mass market consumers of traditionally widespread beers such as pilsners, and persuade them to try something different. Inspired by both pale ales and German Kölsch, modern blonde ales are also now brewed in Belgium, France and Brazil.

Blonde ales resemble lagers in many ways. Their colour profile ranges from pale straw to deep gold. They are moderately bitter and malty, lightly bodied, with subdued fruity aromas. Noble hops contribute to a light, sometimes medium bitterness. They are sufficiently carbonated and visually pleasant due to their excellent clarity. Very approachable and refreshing – especially in the Summer – the blonde ale is worth recommending to every beer lover.

Viticulture

South Australia

The fruit was sourced from premium South Australian vineyards. The 2007 vintage was difficult with low winter temperatures threatening severe frosts, followed by unusually high summer temperatures which placed pressure on water resources. The resulting fruit ripened quickly and was harvested early with full flavours, fine structure and balance.
