VSOP Cognac

VSOP stands for ‘Very Superior Old Pale’ and to achieve this status must be created from eaux-de-vie aged for at least four years. The VSOP category includes designations such as “Old” or “Reserve”. VSOP blends are extra smooth with oaky and spiced notes from the longer ageing process. These are a step up from their VS equivalents, and are perfect for sipping neat or as a premium mixed drink.

VSOP Cognac came into existence at the bequest of King George IV, who requested that the House of Hennessy make a ‘Very superior old pale’. It was quickly taken up across the other cognac houses. The youngest eaux-de-vie in the blend needs to be at least four years old, but many superior blends will include older eaux-de-vie in the blend.
