Our search for a great value Sangiovese naturally took us straight to central Italy, but less predictable was unearthing a stunning small parcel of Merlot ripasso that we couldn't turn down. After a few hours at the blending table, we discovered it was the perfect partner to the crisp and bright Sangiovese on show too. Only 10% in the blend of this rich Merlot was enough to give the Sangiovese more depth and structure, but most importantly really enticing fruit sweetness and a lovely, rounded mouthfeel. It remains true to typical Sangiovese varietal character, but with an even more moreish nature.
