Dolcetto, the 'little sweet one', grows natively up in Piemonte, often alongside the noble Nebbiolo for producers of Barolo, Barbaresco, or both. Unlike Nebbiolo, Dolcetto doesn't need ageing as its tannins and acidity are soft and balanced in youth, making it an ideal supplement for these producers whose other wines are held for years before release. It's stylistically a lovely point of difference too, with its attractive floral aromas and full but silky mouthfeel.
