The voluptuously exciting fruit was grown in the higher vineyards of Douro Superior.

Quinta do Crasto not only has some of the most breathtaking views in the beautiful Douro Valley, but it has mastered the art of making red Douro table wine a thing of beauty, while many of its neighbours continue to overcomplicate and over-oak the stuff. This is an utter delight: scented with jasmine, bulging with ripe black plums, mulberry and blueberry fruit with the merest tug of chewy tannin, and as you swallow, back comes the jasmine.

There is usually a touch of wildness to red wines from the precarious, steep slopes of the Douro valley. Here a blend of port grapes (touriga nacional, tinta roriz and touriga franca) combine to give a sturdy red that seems tinged with cloves and a lift of mulberries. An old favourite on top form.
