Anselmo Mendes began producing wine with Alvarinho grapes in 1998, in Monção and Melgaço, which is prized as the best sub-region in Vinho Verde for this style. This wine is 100% Alvarinho, where the vineyards run alongside the river, at a low altitude, with deep soils of a high pebble content. The name ‘Contacto comes from the skin contact between the juice and the grape skins during fermentation, as well as three months ageing on fine lees with regular bâtonnage. Skin contact is rare for white wines, it adds wonderful structure and creaminess to the traditional characteristics of apricots and peaches, alongside distinctive mineral and smokey qualities. This delicately aromatic and full-bodied white lends itself well to seafood or Asian cuisine because the floral and spice flavours complement each other very well. 13% ABV Please note that it is an offence to purchase or attempt to purchase alcoholic liquor if you are under the age of 18.
