For too long we have ignored the fabulous flavours on offer from Spain's neighbour, but today you do so at your peril. Not only does Portugal have a wealth of quite unique grape varieties, packed with interesting flavours, it has a great variety of landscape to plant on and an enthusiastic new generation of winemakers keen to succeed on the world wine stage. Amoras is from a fabulous single estate in Alenquer owned by Casa Santos Lima, which has been in the da Silva family for several generations. Winemaker is the world-renowned Jose Neiva. Made from a selection of indigenous grapes from the estate's well-tended vineyards, the wine was matured in a combination of French, Portuguese and American oak, adding spicy vanilla notes to its lush forest fruit flavours.
