Legend has it that the hill on which the La Grola vineyard stands was the birthplace of Corvina - signature grape of the Valpolicella Classico region. The Allegrini family's La Grola pays tribute to the story, and blends 80% Corvina Veronese with Oseleta and Syrah for a richly opulent red. The grapes are all grown on this unique single vineyard that enjoys high levels of sunshine and boasts well drained calcareous and clay soils. The high density vines (4,240 per hectare) are on average 25 years old, so produce low yields to give the finished wine powerful concentration. Oak ageing for 15 months, then 16 months in bottle before release ensures a silky finish. Sublime with osso buco, rich pasta dishes or pan-fried veal. A star of the region.
